FAQ

We are often asked questions about the policy cover we apply to your boat, here are just a few of the questions asked and the answers we have provided.

The questions, and answers, are not extensive so please contact us if you have anything you would like to ask.

Motor boat insurance

Q : Am I covered if my stern drive is damaged on a submerged object? What happens to my excess?
A : Cover is provided as underwater gear is covered. The normal policy excess will apply.

Q : Are there mooring restrictions?
A : Tell us of your motorcruiser’s permanent mooring location and we will let you know if it is okay. However you should not moor your craft and leave it unattended off an exposed beach or shore

Q : What happens if a passenger is injured on my boat?
A : You will be covered; there is a £3m policy limit.

Q : Can I tow my boat?
A : As long as your boat is less than 30 feet (9 metres) in length, then we can accept the cover. However you must observe security conditions should the craft be left unattended on a journey. Also bear in mind that damage or injury to other persons is covered by the insurance of the towing vehicle when the boat is attached. Let us know if transit cover is required for crafts over 30 feet.

Sports boat insurance

Q : Are punctures of the tube covered?
A : Yes. But not if the cause is found to be due to general wear and tear.

Q : Offshore sailing; how far can I go?
A : 12 mile limit is provided by the policy cover. You can be more than 12 miles offshore if you are travelling between two points on the mainland.

Q : Do I need a lock for my outboard?
A : Yes, and should be secured to the transom by a locking device. This is a requirement of the policy.

Q : When should I use the "kill cord"; all the time?
A : Yes. No cover is provided if your kill cord is not attached.

RIB insurance

Q : Can I leave my boat all year round at my holiday home in Europe?
A : Yes, tell us where and let us know about the security arrangements and we can usually arrange cover. An increased premium may apply.

Q : Am I allowed to tow water-skiers?
A : You must take the additional option on the policy to allow this cover to be in place – ask us for details. Cover will then provide third party liability to, and of, skiers being towed behind your boat. Cover also extends to wakeboards and inflatable toys up to 2 person capacity.

Yacht insurance

Q : Do I have cover whilst racing my yacht?
A : Yes, but tell us so cover can be extended to your masts, spars, sails and rigging.

Q : Can I use my yacht single handed?
A : Yes, however only during day light hours and excluding racing.

Q : Will my yacht be covered when laid up ashore?
A : Yes, cover for your boat is provided all year round.

Q : Can I sail to France in my yacht?
A : We apply normal cruising limits for UK coastal waters. However, we can extend the cruising range – ask us for details.
